Welcome To

Thank you for visiting!

I love creating, exploring, and learning new things. I want the world to be filled with art of all kinds. The creative process can be tricky, but it's an amazing path to take. My goal is to provide support and encouragement to others along the way. As a former teacher, I hope to share what I've learned so people feel empowered to and create a world they love.

What is Cosmoctopus?

Cosmoctopus is an exploration of life, creativity, and the arts. Creating is a way of life. I’ve been drawing, painting, and writing my whole life, though I’m no professional. Even so, for some of us, the act of creating is necessary for our sense of self-fulfillment so we can flourish. When I don’t, I find myself stuck and wondering: What am I doing with my life?

Seeking out new experiences and creating—within the arts or even a field like science—is so exciting! Although I mostly have experience with art and literature, I recognize that creativity comes in all shapes and forms. But I know at times it’s difficult to create as much as we’d like with all the distractions and upheavals life throws at us. It’s my goal to prevent this from happening by providing techniques to strengthen our creative motivation.

Cosmoctopus is here to help myself and others navigate so we can realize our dreams. It’s an invitation to embrace the weird, the strange, and the unusual—and to create something marvelous with our lives; it’s support and encouragement so that we can make art even despite everything life throws our way. Lastly, it’s a way to empower others so they have the tools to improve the world around them.

How I got started

After the end of a long-term relationship last year and barely scraping by, I’d finally started to recover. I was living in Japan, and I’d just found a job I enjoyed. Then the pandemic started, and it kind of threw my life even more off track.

After I was furloughed, the uncertainty of whether or not I could afford rent and survive the economic recession was too much. I decided to cut my losses. I moved back to the US and started Cosmoctopus.

In the midst of all the chaos, I see this as an opportunity to refocus my life. One to help propel others to their creative goals—so they can write, draw, paint, make music, or whatever it is that requires a little extra guidance I can give. To devote my time and energy into transforming my life. To teach others how to do the same, so we no longer sit and wonder, “What kind of artist could I have been?”

A resource for artists

Cosmoctopus is for those who struggle to sustain the creative process. For those who love creating but find procrastination and perfectionism throttles motivation and dampens their creative life. For those who get overwhelmed and don’t know what to do next.

It’s an exploration. It’s about learning new techniques and understanding ourselves. It’s about challenging our self-growth and interacting with the world in a new way—one that gets us to where we want to be, so we can touch the world and breathe new life into it. Most of all, it’s about learning to change ourselves so we can change the world.

I welcome you to join in on this creative journey and see where it leads!
